Parameter Error

Post by Archiver »

Hello,

Using McCarl's tutorial, I've developed an Excel file to run GAMS from it. It is currently working in my PC (Windows 7 64 bits Office 2007), but when I try to use it in other computers, an "Error Code 6: parameter error" message pops up.

Do you know what is possibly causing it?

Note that I'm using 23.5.2 version with a CPLEX license.

Thanks!

Hi Pedro,

Did you ever resolve this? I just ran into the same problem, and cannot seem to find a good solution via a Google search. In fact, other than a GAMS manual simply repeating the fact that error code 6 is a parameter error, I couldn't find anything other than this post.

Thanks!
Mike

I eventually resolved the problem for my situation. There are a few things that can cause a "parameter error" (although I could not find an exhaustive list), but one of them is if you cannot write an output file, say if that output directory does not exist or is not write-able.
In my case, it was especially strange because I did not change the permissions of the folder. It was a weird MS Windows OS thing where it just "freaked out" and changed permissions on its own. Moreover, it didn't let me fix the permissions until I installed the updates and rebooted the server.
FWIW, here are the details:

GAMS 23.3 64-bit
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (64-bit)

Hey Archiver,

thanks a lot for that solution. I had a similar issue when I tried starting several solver instances from within Java threads. Sometimes, GAMS threw a "parameter error", sometimes it didn't. Now I tried creating different temporary working directories first (using UUID's for each instance) so each thread wrote to and read from its own temp files (.gdx, .lst etc.) and it works like a charm!

Cheers, Marcel
