Building my own PC

Post by nabilkenan »

Hello,

I am currently thinking of building my own PC mostly to solve MIPs using CPLEX/GAMS for research. Currently the specs I have listed include the processor "AMD Ryzen 3960X" and 128 GB RAM. The processor has 24 cores. I was wondering which would present the bottleneck, the 24 cores or the 128 GBs. I am aware that the structure of the MIPs may play a role but this also includes future work where I don't know how the MIPs will look like. Basically, will the 24 cores present any advantage over 10-12 cores in the presence of 128 GB RAM or not? Also, is there anything specific I should be looking for in the RAMs?

Thank you!
